Hello everyone,
I am baaaack! š
After leaving Munich, I immediately dove headfirst into my next projects. I am currently on my way to California where I will be making a wedding cake and attending my stepson's wedding. How exciting is this?! The next day, I return to Austin, I will drop my luggage, and head straight to the next venue where I will be decorating my best friend's daughter's wedding cake with the sugar flowers that I have been working on this week. š
But as promised I am reporting also about my last week in Munich. It was a mostly rainy week with two gorgeous days which we fully took advantage of.
We went to the annual fleamarket on the Oktoberfest grounds and had a blast looking at old things. I bought a few records for my friendās jukebox and some buttons for my budding fashion designer son. We ended the day in a Biergarten. Here is a super dorky photo of me š, with my brother and my sister-in-law. We brought our own picnic and just ordered a beer. Isnāt that so awesome that you can bring your own food to Biergartenās? We had pretzels, Obatzer (a kind of German cheese ball), and some fresh tomatoes. Of course, you can buy food in beer gardens but I love being. able to just bring my own food. I am drinking a Radler, which is half beer (lager) and half lemon soda. My sister-in-law is drinking a White wine Schorle, which is half white wine plus half sparkling water. Both are great Summer drinks and I will add the recipes below for inspiration since it is getting hot at least here in Austin.
The next day my brother and I hiked to āKloster Andechsā. Located in the municipality of Andechs in the Landkreis of Starnberg, Upper Bavaria, Germany, Andechs Abbey is a Benedictine priory that sits atop a hill overlooking the Ammersee. It is a beautiful 1-hour hike through a thick forest. The Abbey is a popular pilgrimage site, renowned for its extravagant Baroque church (my brother says itās the most beautiful Baroque church in the world) and the Klosterbrauerei Andechs brewery. Additionally, the church is the final resting place of the celebrated composer, Carl Orff. The beer is incredibly good, with a dark deep flavor, especially great paired with a pretzel.
Okay, my bags are packed with cake pans and cake-decorating tools, a pretty outfit, and fancy shoes. I am heading out in a few hours, wish me luck. Itās been a few years since I made wedding cakes. The gum paste flowers I had not done in years! I am a little nervous.
I will share photos as soon as I am back.
Wishing you all a wonderful week!
I will check in with another camp highlight. And if you are still looking for summer camps here is our schedule: SUMMERCAMP SCHEDULE
