Oktoberfest is not all about beer - here are some sweet recipes
Ausgezogener, a German doughnut, here is my healthier version by baking it instead of deep frying it.
I made you a quick video to show you how its done. :)
Ausgezogener - German Doughnut
Ingredients:
4 cups flour
1 cup of warm milk
4 Tbsp melted butter
2 1/4 tsp yeast (or 1 little package)
1 egg
1 egg yolk (save the egg white for later)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 pinch salt
topping:
1-2 tsp granulated sugar
2-3 Tbsp melted butter
3 Tbsp powdered sugar
4-6 Tbsp jelly (optional)
Instructions:
Mix flour, milk, butter, yeast, egg, egg yolk, salt and sugar until a shaggy dough forms.
Turn out dough and knead until smooth. (about 8 minutes)
Let dough rest in a warm place (covered with a towel) for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Punch dough down and cut into 8 equal pieces.
form each piece into a circle with the center being thinner then the edges. (kind of like a tiny deep crust pizza)
Cover and rest for another 30 minutes
Brush the edges with the remaining eggwhite
Bake at 375F for approx 10 minute until golden brown
Brush with melted butter and dust with powdered sugar.
Fill center with jelly if you want.
Enjoy
