Hello everyone!
I did one more quick trip with my Eurail Pass to Berlin and now I am back in Munich to spend a little more time with my family before heading back to Austin to get ready for summer camps.
If you want to read about my train experience and get first-hand tips on how to use the train system in Europe, I wrote a whole blog post about it. 👇
Berlin was amazing, as always!
Berlin pulls on my heartstrings for sure, I spent a lot of time there in my youth, a few years before the wall came down, (aka the German Unification) in 1989. So my memory of Berlin was of a city that is very different from the Berlin that is now. Last week I stayed at a friend’s apartment which was a few blocks away from “Bösebrücke” (Bornholmer Straße), this is the place where the wall opened for the first time. An incredible location for the history of Berlin.
(👆Here is a photo of the Berlin wall in the back and some panels with information in front at Bornholmer Straße)
We did a little shopping, and cooked some food, (for my students, I taught my friend and her 9-year-old daughter how to make our cinnamon rolls) and I even got to do a little sightseeing.
One of the days we went out to have Döner-Kebab, a dish that is a staple in Berlin, some even say that the Döner-Kebab was invented here, which may or may not be true. But its roots are Turkish and it’s quite delicious!
Another food Berlin is famous for is the “currywurst”, the most famous place to eat currywurst is Curry 36. There are 4 locations in Berlin and it’s a must if you are going. They have, in Berlin fashion, even Vegan and “Bio” (aka organic) sausages! Currywurst is as some of you might remember from Summer Camp a sausage topped with a delicious curry sauce served with French Fries or a bread roll.
I am glad to be taking a little break from hopping around Europe right now, soaking up a little more time with my family. I have to be honest I am sad to be leaving, but I feel like it is time to put all my attention on writing recipes for summer camps and getting my space ready for In-Person camps, etc.
Have a great rest of the week!
Tschüß,
Chef Pascal
